Policewoman kicked in the head

8/09/2008 1:02:00 PM
A female police officer has been released from hospital after being kicked in the head during a brawl at a rugby league grand final on the NSW North Coast.

Police say the officer tried to break up a fight between about 10 spectators at the game between the Woolgoolga Seahorses and Orara Valley Axemen at Woolgoolga oval yesterday afternoon.

She dropped her portable radio and was picking it up when she was attacked.

She collapsed and lost consciousness, and was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for observation before being released.

A 21-year-old Coffs Harbour man was charged with assault and was granted bail. He will appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on September 29.

Inspector Tony Milner from Coffs Harbour police said the officer's injuries were not serious.

But Chief Inspector Shane Cribb from Coffs Harbour police said: "Any violence towards police will not be tolerated and those responsible can be assured that appropriate action will be taken.

"I wish to acknowledge and praise the officers involved in the incident for their swift action in defusing a volatile situation quickly," he said.

The Axemen won the match.

A police woman is kicked in the head and the person (presumably) responsible gets Bail??? Should've been Bail Refused and locked up for the weekend and faced a Magistrate this morning. Too soft!

Wtf? Why is the last line of the article saying who won? It's trivialising the rest of the article.

Why should kicking a police officer be any different to kicking anyone else Dazza? funny how red necks (like your self presumably) switch between neo liberalism and fascism real quick.

Its a shame the article had to finish with such a trite comment about the outcome of the match. I am sure the journalist will have a wonderful career in the tabloid media.

Going to such 'grand final' herself and other cops should be wearing 'Ned Kelly' helmets. Spor, Sport, and more sport, Australians are good for that. And after sport, Pie and Booze with assoult sauce. Australia couldn't do any better than that. We are example to the world following Sout Africa, the darkest crims corner around the globe.
